What’s Changing
As part of an ongoing commitment to building a workforce system that is sustainable, forward-looking, and truly supportive of the communities we serve, WorkSource Seattle-King County will be transitioning two locations — South Seattle College and YWCA Downtown — from Affiliates to Connection Sites effective June 30, 2026.
As Connection Sites, South Seattle College and YWCA Downtown will continue to offer virtual access to most job and training services, and can connect job seekers and employers to the full range of WorkSource services through referrals to Centers and Affiliates. While these offices will no longer be operating as Affiliates, our commitment to supporting employment and career navigation remains unchanged.
Why This Decision Was Made
WorkSource Seattle-King County serves nearly 30,000 customers annually. In Program Year 2025, WorkSource Seattle-King County experienced a 28% reduction in infrastructure revenue. In response, the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County (WDC), the managing organization of the local WorkSource system, established a workgroup in July 2025 to right-size our physical footprint and develop a service model that reflects both the realities of available funding and the highest areas of community need.
The workgroup reviewed infrastructure costs, cost per participant, in-person foot traffic, customer utilization, and poverty and need mapping across King County. The data identified Auburn, North Seattle, and Rainier as the strongest, most utilized locations, and confirmed that the highest concentration of need is centered around the Rainier corridor and South King County.
This decision was not made lightly, and the WDC worked to ensure this process was community-centered, data-driven, and authorized by the WDC Board. The WDC Board, which serves as the steward of public workforce funding in this region, has emphasized the importance of reinvesting in the highest-impact parts of the system.
Where Job Seekers Can Go

What This Means for the Future
This transition reflects a broader commitment to building a WorkSource system that meets people where the need is greatest. The WDC remains committed to the region, and will continue to explore and invest in opportunities that support every job seeker accessing quality workforce services, regardless of where they live.
The reduction in workforce services regionally underscores the urgent need for sustained local public investment in workforce infrastructure. A strong regional economy depends on a workforce system that is adequately resourced to serve job seekers and connect employers to talent.
